Himiko Nova

I feel bad since my last couple of drawings were more on the rushed side. It felt nice to just be leisurely about this one and I'm actually real happy with the result over all. I did make the boots wider than her actual legs as more of an experiment and in homage to the original sketch I did of her eons ago.

This is my first time doing any kind of color scheme for her, but I had always thought of the basic idea of her cloak being red with gold trim as well as having black hair. The jems and the inside of the sleeves being purple was kinda a last minute decision so I hope it looks ok. I'm also laughing at the fact that I did all these hair textures in micron pens and it's covered up in the black!*lol*

This was done for 's offbeat RPG character contest. Here Himiko Nova is a black mage who specializes in fire magic. She also has the misfortune of catching unintended things on fire. You don't want to KNOW how many books and hats she's ruined practicing her magic! This is why she doesn't usually wear her witch's hat since this is often the result. I made it look more traditional intentionally since it was supposed to represent the old heritage that witches back in the day wore(like ceremonial robes). Oh, and orange and yellow as they are other colors found in flames. The BG was done in colored pencil and made to look of worn paper. I kind of like the effect. One final thing I'll say is that drawing that hand that holds the flame was very challenging because I wanted to meet the balance between detailed and stylized. The last thing that was different for me was the bangs covering a large portion of the face. It's something I usually don't do since I wonder if it loses impact as a design(that along with the black hair and black hat). So yeah, I hope you enjoy my update of my ooooold character that I only sketched once.
